Overview

This is Japan’s only plastic corrugated product made of polyethylene material. It features excellent oil and water resistance, shock absorption, and flexibility. It uses these characteristics to protect gravure print cylinders, export packaging materials, and its uses have recently expanded to includes

    The corrugated form’s unevenness has been utilized to prevent root wrapping in forest seedlings and as an alternative to wire trays.

Application

  1. M-STAR Container helps Japan’s forest industry

    Bare seedling (seedlings grown in the open and dug out) is the most common form of afforestation in Japan. It requires a large area of land, workmanship, choosing the right season for planting, and digging can damage the roots, leading to poor growth after planting. Potted seedlings in soft pots can be found at home centers, but they may not grow well after planting due to a looping phenomenon with their roots. This is why container seedlings were developed. The grooves on the inner surface of the container allow roots to grow straight along them, preventing looping. The M-STAR Container, created by the Miyazaki Prefecture Forestry Technology Center with our APTON product, is a valuable tool for growing container seedlings. It offers the flexibility to adjust the container size to fit the specific size and depth of the growing seedlings.   2. M-STAR Container for greening semi-arid areas to support developing countries

    Trees must plant their roots in deep underground veins and absorb water to grow in semi-arid areas. M-STAR Container makes it easy to produce long-rooted seedlings. Using these containers to bore into the ground and plant trees allows the roots to be close to a water vein, reducing watering work and making it easier for the trees to grow. Greening semi-arid areas will prevent desertification and enable people to settle there. Using these afforested trees as firewood, charcoal, and woodworking materials for furniture and tableware will also improve the residents’ quality of life. The Japan International Forestry Promotion and Cooperation Center (JIFPRO) is leading greening promotion using these long-rooted container seedlings on-site (Myanmar, Kenya, and Botswana).

Process

Two single-layer T-dies are arranged in tandem to extrude flat film at extruders A and B, respectively. The film at extruder B is formed into a corrugated shape and fused to the film at extruder A to make a single-face corrugated sheet.
